3-hour journey by boat from the mainland.63 Despite repeated concerns raised by the UN and humanitarian experts, 300 refugees have already been transferred to the island after being rescued at sea, following their failed attempt to reach neighboring countries in the region.64 Hunger strikes and protests by the Rohingya refugees have not deterred the government. A committee formed in late September 2020 signals its resolve to relocate Rohingya refugees to Bhasan Char.65 In early October 2020, fighting between rival gangs of Munna and ARSA allegedly over methamphetamine or yaba distribution, forced hundreds of people to flee and resulted in 7 fatalities.66 Law enforcement responded by stepping up patrols in the camps, carrying out arrests and interrogating refugees.
