Awareness of gender-based discrimination within the media sector was low among participants in initial discussion. This may be partly due to the lack of avenues in which gender issues can be discussed or solutions sought. Without such avenues, views are inevitably based on personal experience or rumours. Women journalists have no access to complaints mechanisms that review gender-based issues inside media companies.
