Resilience in Action: The 2024 Peaceful Protests in Myanmar

This report is intended to assist humanitarian aid organizations, policymakers, and interested groups both within and outside
Myanmar. The data covers from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024.
Key Messages
•
In 2024, Myanmar experienced a total of
2,965 peaceful protests, with 78% of them
occurring in Sagaing Region.
•
Anti-coup protesters supporting federal
democracy and the spring revolution
organized 2,846 peaceful protests, of
which 80% took place in Sagaing Region.
•
Tatmadaw supporters and nationalist
groups led 77 peaceful protests, most of
which were conducted in major cities.
•
In
conflict-affected
areas,
local
communities organized 40 peaceful
protests, with 24 of these in Sagaing
Region, primarily demanding action from
the relevant administrative bodies and
revolutionary organizations.
•
The emphasis on military control and
security concerns in Myanmar has
progressively restricted the space for
freedom of assembly and freedom of
expression.
