4.2​ DEMOLITION OVERVIEW On 25 May 2026, the Myanmar military government, with KNA support, began the 77-building demolition crackdown in Shwe Kokko. Fifty-seven buildings were demolished by machinery and 20 by explosives. Myanmar Witness geolocated demolition footage and compared it with the state’s own visual map and imagery. 1 The reason given for the demolitions was that these designated buildings were deemed illegal and tied to scam operations. Myanmar Witness created an ArcGIS map to document the geolocated demolitions and compare them with the state-provided map shared by Myanmar state media outlets (figure 5).
