are on Facebook,” explaining how people trust in Facebook more than they trust each other in
face to face conversations. Therefore, Facebook does not mediate conversations. It does not
place itself in between people; it facilitates a platform which people are allowed to live out
their lives in every possible human way; it has become part of humanity. At the same time,
we should not overlook the many factors that shape these conversations and the performed
sociality, or how local users, as the western user, are tethered to their phones. Facebook in
Yangon needs to be understood through its contextualizing terms. This thesis has looked at
Facebook and explored the case from different perspectives; through the battle of the fonts
with technological challenges, through affect and emotions and how Facebook is understood
as a place of truth, and lastly, discussing the three clashing levels and Facebook as a system.
