2. Improving the Media Regulatory Framework
During the interview period, much debate took place regarding the drafting of a new press
law and the competing bills prepared by the MoI and the Press Council. Even as parliament considers both drafts, advocacy should continue to amend certain provisions that
still limit media freedoms and promote additional legislation related to access to information and telecommunications. This process also includes repealing anachronistic laws that
have been used to repress press freedoms such as the 1962 Printers and Publishers Act
and the 2004 Electronic Transactions Act.
