6/11/22, 12:15 PM Myanmar’s military junta eliminates independent media | RSF The only solution envisaged by most journalists to avoid arrest and police violence is to hide or flee to the remotest regions. According to The Irrawaddy, hundreds of journalists have chosen one or other of these options and, despite all the problems, some are continuing to work. Others have fled to regions that are rebel strongholds, such as the eastern state of Karen. Last week, RSF referred the military crackdown on media and journalists to the UN special rapporteurs on the human rights situation in Myanmar and on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression. Myanmar is ranked 139th out of 180 countries in RSF's 2020 World Press Freedom Index.
