Inside Social Media: The Blue Shirt’s Social Media Observation
KEY FI N DI NGS
Overall, the number of posts with the content related to citizen participation and mobilization, and the content promoting military means and violence” were significantly higher
than any other political messages we are focusing on. In the meantime, we also found that
the contents related to social values either promoting social cohesion, tolerance and rights
or social division and hatred were also very common on social media. The main messages
of citizen participation and mobilization primarily aimed at more immediate or short-term
goals, such as calling for citizens to join nonviolent campaigns against the Myanmar military
and the coup, as well as supporting various campaigns for military operations, whether for
Myanmar military or the pro-democracy alliance forces. In contrast, messages that contributed to long-term goals such as federalism and political solutions, and promoted societal values such as equality, diversity, inclusion, and social cohesion, were less common.
