Preface Five civilians, including a 70-year-old elderly woman, were found dead among the ashes of a burned field. The incident occurred on May 14, 2024, in Ywar Shay Village, Myingyan District, approximately two hours from Mandalay. Military council forces set the entire village ablaze, resulting in the deaths of Daw Than Myaing and Daw Mya Thwel, both aged 70, Daw Paw Gyi, aged 65, U Myint Maung, aged 55, and U Min Naing, aged 45—all found with severe burn injuries. The incitement to attack Ywar Shay Village began circulating on pro-military Telegram channels as early as May 11. Three days later, military forces carried out the arson attack, leading to the destruction of the entire village. The Telegram channels responsible for inciting this attack are known for consistently promoting pro-military council content and suppressing proresistance voices. A Telegram channel named Ko Thet, supporting the military council, circulated a post labeling certain Ywar Shay villagers as “terrorist supporters.” MMC (News), another pro-military council channel, intensified these calls, urging the “removal of terrorist militants” from Ywar Shay as soon as possible. -3-
