Technology: Friend or Foe for Women of Myanmar disabled or a member of a minority ethnic group and the comments made towards them could be extremely upsetting. One women’s rights activist related the experience of receiving relentless sexist comments on her organization’s Facebook page and Messenger chat. An LGBT+ activist related experiences of members of the LGBT+ community outing their sexual orientation or revealing their same-sex relationships/ marriages online, which often result in significant harm to them due to systemic homoand transphobia in the country. She highlighted: “Members of the LGBT+ community are being specially targeted for persecution and are being humiliated because of prejudice against them. They have experienced different forms of sexual harassment and assault while in police custody or when being held in detention by the junta forces, because of their visible identity. Transmen routinely face abuse, intimidation, harassment from police officers and junta informers who extort money and sexual favors from them.” (KII_11, a woman advocating for LGBT+ rights) 45
