Communication: The strike committees uses various methods to raise awareness and ensure
that the public understands and accepts the political shifts and social movements. Media outlets
play a crucial role in presenting and discussing these movements and political perspectives to
the general public. The strike committees also actively encourage and support the continuation
of social movements to maintain their momentum.
Monitoring: Efforts have been made to provide awareness on political goals and military code
of conducts for members of armed groups and monitor relationships between local
administrative bodies and civilians to ensure good governance and civil-military relations.
Advocacy: The strike committees present the voices of the people in Myanmar to the
international community. Additionally, they connect with the Myanmar diaspora abroad and
engage in coordinated efforts to advocate for international advocacy actions.
Humanitarian Assistance: The strike committees facilitate the provision of humanitarian
assistance to conflict-affected people. They also conduct needs assessments, gather data, and
engage in activities that provide support and assistance to those in need.
At the same time, pro-military supporters and nationalist groups have been able to carry out protests in
most urban areas under the protection of the military council. However, because these activities are
conducted under the guidance of the Myanmar military, it cannot be claimed that these groups have true
freedom of expression. Furthermore, due to the pressure they face, local civilians, clergy, and
government staffs who are involved in protests raise questions about whether their participation is
genuinely voluntary or coerced.
Even though pro-military supporters and nationalist groups may be present at protests, it cannot be
guaranteed that they are fully safe and secure. The true nature of these protests remains ambiguous,
as many participants may not have the freedom to express themselves without fear of repercussion.
The Myanmar military has organized protests and pro-military events, which are linked to armed conflicts
in Shan State (North) and Rakhine State. These protests have been used as a platform to communicate
messages to both domestic and international audiences.
In November 2023, during a protest in Mandalay, some anti-China chants were involved, which caused
displeasure from the Chinese government. Since then, in 2024 protests led by military supporters and
nationalist groups, such anti-China chants have not been directly expressed.
In conflict-affected areas, local communities continue to peacefully express their grievances despite
facing significant risks. Their efforts to voice their struggles must be met with a willingness from relevant
organizations to listen and respond.
In conflict areas, local communities face significant challenges, and when they peacefully express their
grievances, they do so at great personal risk. It is essential for the relevant organizations and authorities
to listen and acknowledge their voices and struggles to ensure their concerns are heard and addressed.
In 2024, news outlets within Myanmar covered peaceful protests, with a total of 92 local media outlets
reporting on related events. Among these, three media outlets provided daily coverage, while
approximately seven media outlets reported three times per week.
