Logistics and trade facilitation
E-commerce is reliant on warehousing, picking and packing of goods to be distributed and on delivery services. These services rely on good roads and other
infrastructure. Myanmar has a growing metalled road network, enabling postal services and a courier service able to distribute goods nationally. The development
of this road network will continue to be of importance.
Postal and courier services have developed rapidly in recent years following deregulation that has enabled new businesses to enter the market. As a consequence,
e-commerce packages can be delivered reliably across much of Myanmar. Nevertheless, motorbikes are not permitted in certain cities with the result that
messenger and courier services have to use cars or vans for collection and delivery. These larger vehicles are often delayed by congestion. The strategy therefore
calls for a removal of this restriction at least for these two uses.
Warehousing is needed in convenient locations for efficient distribution. A network for warehouses for shared use by MSMEs as well as warehouses for large
operators that may want a dedicated facility. This warehousing needs to:
