Insights for youth recruitment
prevention in Latin America
In Latin America, Trusted Partners played a critical role in reporting content including glorification, support and
representation of dangerous organizations and individuals. They also provided feedback on youth recruitment
prevention initiatives.
In Brazil, Trusted Partners reported content on Instagram portraying members of a designated criminal
organization, including depictions of prohibited firearms, acts of violence and drugs. In Colombia, Trusted
Partners reported profiles representing criminal groups, in the context of threats and violent attacks by these
groups against journalists in the Guaviare department. In Haiti, the reported content glorified criminal acts
by designated individuals associated with gangs. These insights supported our efforts to remove violating
content and mitigate the risk of dangerous organizations and individuals on our platforms, as well as of
physical attacks.
Meta partnered with Trusted Partners and regional experts to launch youth-focused messaging campaigns
across Latin America. Delivered to 80,000 users aged 13–25 in Mexico and an additional 55,000 across
Colombia, Haiti and Brazil, these campaigns were designed to inform users about platform violations, educate
them on the risks of engaging with dangerous organizations and individuals, and empower them to make their
own more informed choices online. The campaign led to a measurable increase in account deactivation and
unfriending behavior.
