2. Privacy
The right to privacy is a necessary condition for the realization of other human rights, such as freedom of
expression, freedom of assembly and association, and freedom of belief and religion. One of the core principles
outlined in our Corporate Human Rights Policy is to keep people safe and protect privacy.
Examples of potential inherent salient
human rights risks identified in CSRA
Content or behavior on Meta apps may adversely
impact privacy and data protection rights.
Examples of how Meta addressed
the potential risks in 2025
In 2025, we developed Private Processing for Meta
AI on WhatsApp, which is built on top of a Trusted
Execution Environment. Private Processing allows
users to direct Meta AI to process their requests in
a secure and private cloud environment where no
one, not even Meta or WhatsApp, can access their
personal messages. This technology now powers
certain optional Meta AI features on WhatsApp,
such as summarizing messages and providing
writing help. Once Private Processing has finished
responding to a request, the messages won't be
stored. Read more about this work in our Privacy
Progress Update.
We filed a lawsuit against the entity behind
CrushAI or “nudify” apps, which allow people
to create AI-generated nude or sexually explicit
images of individuals without their consent.
We further announced additional steps we
took to clamp down on these apps. This work
complemented our longstanding efforts to help
prevent intimate image abuse, whether real or
AI-generated, from spreading online, through
tools like StopNCII.org and the National Center for
Missing and Exploited Children's Take It Down.
