The year before he was murdered, Sheremet’s friends told journalists that he believed he was being followed in Kyiv, and he told Reuters in 2015 that he felt unsafe when visiting Moscow. Five suspects were named in 2019, and both Russia’s Federal Security Service and Belarus’ KGB have been blamed for the bombing.
