(2.6) Counter-Terrorism Law The Counter-Terrorism Law was passed in June 2014 under the quasi-civilian government led by U Thein Sein. The law aims to prosecute if two or more people are convicted of acts of terrorism against the nation or diplomatic organisations. The legal provisions of the law aim to prevent criminal offences but the political issues.23 There have been a total of 535 prosecutions under the Counter-Terrorism Law since the coup, including the cases lodged for peaceful protests and processions according to the Assistance Association for the Political Prisoners (AAPP). For instance, Ko Wai Yan Kyaw, Ko Chit Naing and Ko Zin Myo Win were prosecuted under the article 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law for organising anti-junta protests in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei township.
