Testing Additional Features Through the J24 Project The requirements for future development also mention adding the ability to check which users are connected to specific mobile base stations in order to support location triangulation through these stations and detect when a large number of people congregate in a particular area.  Additionally, the project plans to include the ability to create geofences, triggering alerts when specific individuals enter a designated area. There is also a focus on querying historical location data to trace past movements. Geedge aims to be able to flag individuals who frequently change SIM cards, call international numbers, or use censorship circumvention tools and foreign social media applications. The J24 project also includes features designed to target specific groups. These features would allow for the display of the geographic distribution of a monitored group on a map and the detection of unusual gatherings of group members at specific locations. This enables operators to track and anticipate the formation of large protests and demonstrations. The Xinjiang project stands out from Geedge’s operations in foreign countries. The relationship between Geedge and the Mesalab at the Chinese Academy of Sciences is clearest here, as well as evidence of Geedge’s close relationship with the government of China. The Xinjiang project suggests an integration between technology firms, academic institutions, and local authorities, allowing for a more tailored and experimental approach to surveillance and censorship. Looking to the future, additional features requested for Cyber Narrator indicate, not only the already demonstrated adaptive capacity of Geedge’s business model but also hints at potential future developments that could be deployed in other regions of China and abroad. This trend towards regionalized censorship and surveillance can be seen as complimentary to the Great Firewall, enabling provincial-level control and allowing governments to tailor suppression strategies according to local needs, which may mean increased scrutiny in regions with minority populations. Geedge’s Presence in Other Regions: Fujian and Jiangsu Documents indicate that Geedge Networks began conducting a similar pilot project for a provincial firewall in Fujian in 2022, a province off the coast of Taiwan. However, information about this project is limited compared to other deployments. In the leaked documents, this pilot lacks a code name and is simply referred to as the "Fujian Project" (福 建项目).  Documents only contain operational details, with no information on planning stages or customer requirements, aside from what can be inferred from Jira operational issue tickets. Geedge Networks' hardware is installed in data centers located in cities in Fujian: Quanzhou, Fuzhou, Zhangzhou, Ningde, and Xiamen. One issue ticket identifies the Fujian provincial administration as the client government. Another specifies the need to redirect HTTP requests to another URL as one of the requirements.
