According to Justice For Myanmar sources, Myanmar
military engineers visited the Malaysian company Asia
AeroTechnic Sdn Bhd (AAT) in February 2026
regarding repairs to an Airbus A319 (manufacturer
serial number 1791, registered as XY-AGR). The
aircraft was imported into Myanmar by Air KBZ (now
Mingalar Aviation) in 2013 and it has been flown by its
sister airline, Myanmar Airways International (MAI),
under a lease from the Myanmar Air Force. As Justice
For Myanmar previously exposed, the Myanmar Air
Force agreed in 2019 to pay more than US$4.8 million
for a VIP refurbishment of the aircraft. HAECO, which
was to carry out the work, cancelled its contract after
public pressure.
AAT is a Malaysian state-owned aircraft maintenance,
repair and overhaul (MRO) company. It is wholly
owned by MARA Corporation Sdn Bhd, which is owned
by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), according to
Malaysia’s corporate registry. MARA is an agency
under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.
The company, which was formerly named the
Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology Sdn Bhd, is
located on the Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL)
Subang campus.
