03 Foreword Meta’s mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Our services and apps help make it possible for grassroots movements to flourish and challenge established authority and orthodoxy. A protestor in Iran, an LGBTQIA+ activist in Uganda, a journalist in Kyiv — they, and everyone who uses our services, are the reason we work hard to respect human rights. With billions of people using our apps every day, we seek to meet the responsibilities of operating at such a scale. With the speed of technological and political change, understanding and addressing the ways our services impact human rights is a constantly evolving challenge. Meta has been a leader in AI research and development for over a decade, and we continuously adapt our approach to live up to our human rights responsibilities and remain vigilant for emerging risks as powerful new tools such as generative AI rapidly evolve.
