“Crashing Down on Us” 71 The Myanmar Junta’s Aircraft Myanmar’s junta has sourced much of its airpower from China and Russia, with both nations playing key roles in supplying aircraft used in the airstrikes after the coup.239 Model Manufacturer Type Description Events FTC-2000G (JL-9) Guizhou Aircraft Industry Corporation (Guizhou Aviation Aircraft Co Ltd), a subsidiary of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC)240 Multirole Fighter The FTC-2000G is a multirole fighter jet capable of carrying missiles, bombs, and rockets.242 According to Stockholm International Peace Research Institute Arms Transfer Database, Myanmar ordered 12 FTC2000G aircraft from China in 2020.243 Six of China’s stateowned jets were delivered to the Myanmar junta in November 2022 and August 2024 (including tail numbers 1407, 1411, 1412, 1413).244 Resistance forces have shot down two FTC-2000G jets: one (tail number 1405) by the Kachin Independence Army on January 16, 2024, and another one reportedly by the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force on July 1, 2025.245 Exported via China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC)241 Trainer 239 Fortify Rights has analyzed publicly available information on aircraft and helicopters used in Myanmar military airstrikes.
