Abstract
Between February 2022 and October 2025, 1,993 people were detained for criticizing the Myanmar military or expressing support for pro-democracy movements online.
Most arrests — 1,573 people — took place in Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Ayeyarwady, Magway, and Shan.
Since the Election Protection Law was introduced, 25 people have been detained for online comments, including 10 just in October.
According to the Myanmar military, 88 people have now been prosecuted in 40 cases under this law.
